For The Parents: How To Deal With Bruxism In Kids

As we know bruxism affects all ages of people and can become more and more common as years go by

. Bruxism can develop in people of all ages. Some even have it so bad that they end up grinding their teeth during the day as well and there are also some people who have no idea they grind their teeth at night until they notice the symptoms later on or have someone tell them. Bruxism can result in chipped and missing teeth, infection of the teeth and gums, sore jaw and neck muscles and more.

Doctors have found that high levels of stress and anxiety are more responsible for causing bruxism than anything else. Stress and anxiety are considered to be the main causes of this condition so when a person relieves stress and brings their levels of stress down they are usually able to treat the condition as a result. You are going to have to determine where all of this stress is coming from and then do something about it. Bruxism surgery is rarely needed but in the most serious cases of bruxism.

Bruxism surgery would involve a serious procedure which is why doctors like to avoid it as best as they can. There are possible risks and complications that could arise as a result of it and the last thing they want to do is cause someone with bruxism to have even more stress. Besides reducing stress levels doctors will often suggest their patients wear a mouth guard when they go to sleep at night. Although a mouth guard will not be able to prevent the person from grinding their teeth at night it will prevent damage to the teeth.

Performing relaxation exercises such as yoga and meditation on a regular basis help as well. Massage can help a lot in people with bruxism, to loosen and limber the neck, jaw and shoulder muscles. Drinking water and eating a nutritious diet is also important. Every little thing you can do will make a difference.

You can even get your spouse or a friend to give you a nice neck and face rub before you go to sleep at night. This will help prevent the person from clenching down and grinding their teeth over the course of the night. Even the seemingly simplest things can have a huge effect on people with a bruxism condition. Every little thing you can do is important and will hopefully be enough so you will not need bruxism surgery.
