For The Ultimate Whale-Watching Experience, Visit Eden In NSW

Eden is town in New South Wales, Australia. Located on the serene waters of the Twofold Bay, it has a unique history. For the most part of the 19th Century it was predominantly known as a whaling station. Today, it provides spectacular scenes of whales as they migrate every year from the icy Antarctica waters.

It has been dubbed as the 'southern gateway to the Sapphire Coast'. Eden is situated about 147 miles from Lakes Entrance which is in the middle of the cities of Melbourne and Sydney. Its ideal location and natural beauty make it a sought-after holiday resort. The population is only 3,150 but they are well known for their hospitality, friendliness and helpfulness.

For a day out in the fresh air, take a cruise from Twofold Bay. You can do some all-weather diving, fishing or simply watch the charming little fairy penguins, dolphins and whales. You can't leave Eden without visiting the impressive Killer Whale Museum. You can learn fascinating facts about these majestic creatures which have had such an impact on the town's history.

The museum was established 75 years ago and, today, it is considered to be one of the most progressive and innovatory museums in New South Wales. It is owned by the town and run by a group of fervent volunteers. It has had several upgrades and extensions in the last two decades.

Take a guided tour to really experience the museum. You will be hosted by a person with an all-encompassing knowledge of the displays. In this way, your visit will be educational, enlightening and interesting. Tours run throughout peak holiday periods. If you want to visit with a large group, you can make prior arrangements.

Whaling has been so pertinent to Eden's history that another must-see place is the Davidson Whaling Station. It re-opened in 1991 as a visitor attraction on the same place where 3 generations of the well known Davidson family were involved with whale hunting. This era spanned the 1820s to the 1930s. Photographs, interpretive signs and sketches illustrate this controversial operation. A viewing platform has replaced the 'Tying Down Works' which is where they extracted oil from whale blubber.

The beautiful Ben Boyd National Park is located to the north and south of Eden. This area spans no less than 10,000 hectares. It is home to some superb surfing beaches, historic lighthouses, rocky bays, ocean platforms, lovely campgrounds and sheltered inlets. It is named after Benjamin Boyd who was an active entrepreneur in the 1800s.

There is a lot do enjoy at the park. Have a leisurely barbecue or a picnic at the water's edge, or swim in the beautiful water. You are bound to see the indigenous Eastern Grey Kangaroos leaping around, and White-Bellied eagles soaring through the air. On the headland of Twofold Bay is Boyd's Tower which offers fantastic whale-watching.

There's no shortage of accommodation in Eden with an excess of 10,000 options. These include tourist parks, houseboats, hotels and motels, B&Bs, guest houses, apartment hotels and lots of self-catering establishments. With a perfect temperate climate and lots to do and see, this is definitely a popular Australian holiday mecca.
