For Things to Change, You Have to Change!

"For things to change, you have to change. For things to get better, you have to get better" - Jim Rohn, just one of this brilliant philosopher's many hundreds of wise quotes. Having heard him speak live on several occasions and read most of his books, I've been exposed to this particular line many times. You don't have to ponder on it very long to understand the real message and truth behind those words. I think is goes hand in hand with the old saying "If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got". The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Invest in Yourself

So if you are settling with a job that you hate hoping something better will come along or hoping for some miraculous pay rise that never comes, it's pretty obvious that unless you do something about it, NOTHING is going to change. The only way something better will come along is if you go afer it. And if you want it to pay higher than your current job, then you'll need to learn some new skills, increase your knowledge. You will only get paid for the value you bring to the job (or the value your boss thinks you bring to the job!). But the question is "Are you prepared to make the changes and invest time in improving yourself and learning new skills in order to gain the rewards?". Most people are not so they stay right where they are, earning just what they earning. Unfortunately, at the same time they are constantly complaining or declaring how unfair life is and blaming anything and anyone for their situation rather than taking responsibility.

Personal Development

When I got started with my home business, I understood that I would have to learn some new skills but in the beginning I didn't realise that as well as the skills related specifically to my business and industry, I would also need to do a good deal of work on myself. It was my proper introduction to personal development. Another thing that Jim Rohn used to say was "Work harder on yourself than you do on your business (or job). I had to work on alot of things! My time management for one thing (and my time-keeping!), my attitude, my discipline, goal setting.

Successful People DO What Unsucessful People Won't Do

Most recently, my husband and I made the decision to leave our MLM business after 7 years. We were still doing the same things over and over and expecting different results! We needed to make a change and as we decided to venture into Internet Marketing, (which we knew absolutely nothing about!) that meant learning some new skills. Could we become successful in internet marketing using the skills we had learned from our MLM business? Well, we could transfer all the personal development skills we had acquired of course. But everything else, we were going to have to learn. And for us, it was a lot of learning. And it was a steep learning curve. But we did it because for things to change, we had to change and for things to get better, we had to get better. The rewards are huge, not just financially but in terms of personal growth. Successful people do what unsuccessful people won't do.

Take Responsibility!

So if you want to be more successful in your life, whether it's work or financially, don't just wait around expecting something better to come along. It won't miraculously appear out of nowhere. YOU need to take responsibility. If you want the better job, go and take some evening classes to add to your skill set. If you hate your job/boss/situation/financial circumstances, then get up and do something about it. You can change! You can become better. Just take personal responsibility.
