For a Safer Vacation Use These Scuba Diving Travel Tips

Scuba diving travel is definitely a very popular activity today. There are tons of great locations around the world to go scuba diving today. However, there are a number of things you have to think about before you actually depart.

First of all, remember that not just anyone is allowed to go on one of these trips. Before you are allowed in the water, most locations require you to be scuba certified. There are three steps to this process.

The first is the classroom study, where they teach you the techniques, and then there is the pool portion. This is where you will put into practice what you learned. For this reason, most courses will first teach you the techniques, and then in the same session will take you to their practice area where you put them into practice.

For the last part, you must pass an open water test. Obviously everything until that point will be done in a controlled environment. However, here you will have to put into practice what you learned in the open water in preparation for your dive trip. You can also choose to just take the academic portion via a home study course, and then do the in-pool work when you get to the resort area.

Then, you have to think about the necessary equipment that is involved for a trip. This can admittedly be quite pricey. Scuba diving requires a lot of gear, and perhaps more than any other activity.

At minimum, you must have a mask, snorkel and fins. You can either buy your own or just rent them at the resort. It depends entirely on how serious you are. If you plan on scuba diving at home after the trip, it will be wise to invest in your own equipment, as this will save you money.

Now that you know what is involved, there is a way to avoid this whole process - go to a location that does not require scuba certification. Most places do require certification. However, there are certain locations in popular resort areas like the Bahamas and Mexico that do not. Therefore, if you want to bypass the certification process, this is an option. However, keep in mind that this is somewhat dangerous, and if you are not certified, you are definitely taking a risk.

To get the best deal, make sure you go on the internet. Here you will be able to find scuba diving travel tours at the location you are going to. To save money, make sure you go during a non-peak season, and preferably avoid the weekends as well. Generally, late fall and early winter will net you the lowest prices.

The bottom line - scuba diving travel can be expensive when you factor in the costs of getting certified and buying equipment. Generally, both these things can run you around $1000, and that is before the expenses of the trip are factored in. It is possible to go on tours that require no certification, and you can rent your own gear there if you want to save money. However, it is safer to get certified.
