Ford Gives The 2010 Escape A 3.0l Engine Option

The Ford Escape is a small SUV which was first introduced by the Ford Motor Company in 2000 when they unveiled the 2001 Escape

. The Escape was introduced to compete with similar vehicles produced by Honda and Toyota.

The 2010 Ford Escape comes standard with a 2.5 liter four cylinder engine which produces 171 horsepower and 171 pound feet of torque. The Escape comes standard with a manual transmission, although it can be upgraded to a six speed automatic transmission. The Escape also comes with front wheel drive, although for an additional price the SUV can be upgraded to all wheel drive.

Fuel efficiency with the 2.5 liter engine is impressive. The EPA estimates that when using a manual transmission, the 2010 Ford Escape gets 22 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway. When coupled with an automatic transmission, the Escape gets 20 miles per gallon in the city, but has the same highway efficiency. Selecting the all wheel drive option will decrease fuel efficiency by another 5%.

For those individuals looking for more power out of the Escape, a 3.0 liter V6 engine is available. The six cylinder optional engine gets 240 horsepower and 233 pound feet of torque. While the V6 engine improves performance, fuel efficiency takes a hit. With a V6 engine, the 2010 Escape gets 18 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway. Like the four cylinder engine, if the Escape is upgraded to all wheel drive, fuel efficiency will decline by about 5%.

For those looking to maximize fuel efficiency, a hybrid Ford Escape is available. The hybrid 2010 Ford Escape uses a 2.5 liter engine and gets impressive fuel efficiency of 34 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway.
