Forklift Accessories Make the Ordinary Forklift Extraordinary

Even without forklift accessories, the forklift stands alone as a vehicle that no factory or warehouse can do without. It becomes even more useful when you use the right forklift accessories for special purposes.

The original design of the forklift is straightforward enough. Strong steel forks are attached to the front of the vehicle on a hydraulic lift. These forks can carry a heavy load. Simply insert them into a pallet and lift it up and you can move it to another location with ease. With forklift accessories, the forklift obtains usefulness beyond what its name implies.

A roll of carpet might roll off of flat forks. That's why the purpose-designed carpet pole was invented. In carpet warehouses, this replaces the forks. The forklift operator inserts the pole into the center of the roll and carries it safely to whatever location it is needed.

The disadvantage of regular forklift tines is that they are made for lifting only and anything that must be rotated has to be rotated manually or with another piece of equipment. You can get forklift accessories that will rotate up to a full 360 degrees. When materials of any kind must be turned upside down or emptied into other containers, these will do the job quickly, efficiently and safely.

The drum handler is an example of such a forklift accessory. While you can lift drums from there base with a forklift, there are applications where you want to also rotate the drums and empty their contents. The drum handler allows you to do just this.

There are a number of other forklift accessories that can be used instead of or in conjunction with regular forks in order to expand the forklift's capabilities. For example, with standard forks, the operator must manually move the forks closer together or farther apart, depending on what they are going to be carrying. There are attachments available that allow the operator to manipulate the forks from inside his cage. These can make very fine adjustments, easily.

Telescopic forks are another special type of fork that are very useful in situations where the operator must be able alter the reach of forks regularly. While there are fork extensions that can be used, they are not practical if they need to be frequently installed and removed. The telescoping forks can be lengthened or shortened at will.

With all of the different types of alternative forklift accessories available, perhaps the word "forklift" is no longer appropriate for this versatile machine. With the right forklift accessories, you can do almost anything. Simply "lifting" with "forks" is just one job they can do. Maybe it's time to find a new name for the most useful piece of equipment in the workplace.
