Form a Singapore Company: Singapore Employment Pass Essentials
The Singapore Employment Pass (EP) is a work visa issued to foreign professionals
, managers, and employees with specialized skills. This pass is also given to foreign entrepreneurs, managing directors, and shareholders who want to
form a Singapore company and personally manage their business.
To prove their eligibility, EP applicants should provide these following documents and certificates to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM):
1. A completed Employment Pass Application form which can be downloaded from the agency's website.
a. For professionals. If their employer is a Singapore-based company, they should get sponsorship from this business entity. But in case the employer is an overseas company which does not have any local office, their application should be sponsored by a local company which is required to sign the EP form and stamp this document with its company seal.
2. Education certifications, and if applicable, testimonials from previous employers.
It is important that all documents are in English, if not, these should be translated by an authorized translation service.
3. The latest business profile of a company that is registered to the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA). But in case that it is not yet registered, it must provide the agency with the registration papers from its respective professional body.
4. A photograph (passport-sized) of an applicant which must be taken within the past three months.
5. The passport particulars and other relevant travel documents of the applicants.
(Special not: If the applicants have non-English documents and certificates, they should submit a copy of the original records including its translated version which has been certified by their respective embassy.)
Eligibility for Employment Pass:
One of the most important factors that will determine the eligibility for EP is the educational criteria. According to MOM, applicants should have a college diploma from a reputable university.
However, the agency said that passing the educational criteria does not guarantee a successful application since it also considers other factors. In fact, foreign applicants who lack a college degree may still qualify for EP as long their entrepreneurial or professional skills are highly notable.
To qualify for EP, applicants should also have a fixed monthly salary rate of at least S$2,500.
Aside from these factors, MOM also considers a foreign professional's age, current citizenship, work-related experience, and roles and responsibilities in a company.
And for entrepreneurs, the agency considers their company's background and paid-up capital that will determine their potential contribution to Singapore's economy.
