Formal wear is the name for formal clothes in US and Canada where as in UK and other Commonwealth regions it is of the formal dress

. These terms are related to the clothing which is suitable for formal and other social functions or events like wedding, dinner party etc. Normally in Western style of dressing, formal evening dresses are characterized by black and white garments. Many countries follow this style of dressing. In countries where there is no formal costume that is used in the national level, these dress patterns are followed to be the standard formal social dress. Certain dress combinations are actually governed by a set of rules which are the needed dress codes of the area. As an example, we can explicitly say the combination of black tie and morning dress. Clothes that are worn during formal events shall be grouped with a common dress code under the name of formal dress. Sometimes we shall also find that there are some traditional rules which govern the formal dress formation. Some of the evening dress variants are also formed ion this way which shall be used during occasions like formal dances, prom dances and award programs of the entertainment industry. In the evening programs white and black ties are considered to be the formal dress code. The morning dress is considered to be the day time formal clothing whereas lounge suit is still said to be informal. Business suits are available that shall be used as the formal dress outfit for any day time formal events. There are formal dresses designed and produced by different fashion brands. The two main dress codes used for formal dressing patterns are White Tie and Black Tie. A brief description of these dress codes shall be obtained by reading the remaining part of the article.

White Tie: In this type of dressing the required clothing for men will contain the following components- a dress with a tailcoat, formal piece of trousers which is generally uncuffed and having stripes on the leg portion. There is also a white bow tie, a white waistcoat, a white or plain stiff fronted shirt which comes with a detachable type of wing collar, cuff links and shirt studs. Along with this we shall also find a black patent leather shoe of court type and other accessories.

Black Tie: This shall be briefly described as dinner jacket, trousers with one stripe of leg seams that is uncuffed, and also shirt which has a placketed, pleated, pique or ruffled type front stitching along with a black bow type tie. This is also having a black evening waistcoat which can also be called as a cummerbund. This type of dresses is also created by fashion brands like the Jack Jones and others.
