J.D. Fortune, former front man of the Australian rock band INXS is now living in
his car says the singer. Fortune was chosen to replace the late Michael Hutchence during the 2005 television series Rock Star: INXS but was sacked by the band in February of this year.
He became lead singer of the group, taking the place of Hutchence who was ruled to have committed suicide in a Sydney hotel room in November 1997.
The band released an album together called Switch in 2006 and toured for two years following the albums release. They released the singles "Pretty Vegas" and "Afterglow" during that time.
Fortunes money problems began with a cocaine addiction that lasted two years while he was on tour with the band. He recently told reporters, I found myself really alone because I had travelled with these guys for 23 months."
He went on to say that the band had fired him with a simple handshake at the airport in Hong Kong, which left INXS without a singer once again. Fortune discussed this story, along with a live performance, on Toronto's Virgin Radio and said that he had stopped taking drugs.
A spokesperson for the band told the Australian press that she would not comment on the firing at this time.
Fortune said he was now living out of his car and that his debt problems were mounting by the day. "From the street to the air back to the street again. It is only me," he said.
