Four It Mistakes Too Many Companies Make

Are you making some of the most common technology mistakes out there

? Is dealing with your IT in the wrong way costing your company tens of thousands of dollars every year?

If you are, you certainly aren't alone. What's worse, you might not even be aware of it.

There are a lot of technical mistakes you can make with the computers in your office or facility, of course, but that's not the focus of this article. As frustrating as it is to accidentally unplug a cord or unintentionally alter your e-mail settings, these are problems that are relatively easy to find and solve.

What is much more difficult to put a finger on and much more expensive to your company are four organization-wide mistakes that we unfortunately see time and time again:

1. Paying for IT by the hour. If you are paying monthly invoices for IT hours, then there is a very high probability that technology is costing you a lot more than it should be. Why? Not only are billable IT hours generally more expensive (on a per-hour basis) than a monthly managed services agreement, but your IT team isn't working as proactively as they could be to fix problems before they affect your business.

2. Not having a strong backup and recovery plan. How often do you back up your most important data and applications? How sure are you that those backups could be restored seamlessly, and what kind of money would it cost your business if you couldn't get those files back?

Those are the kinds of questions that smart business owners and executives ask themselves before they look into backup and disaster recovery plans. Because fires, office break-ins, power surges, hardware failures, and a thousand other risks are out there, it's important to protect the future of your business with a strong backup plan.

3. Paying more than you should for software and hardware. There are a lot of different forms that this problem can take, but one of the most important right now is a reluctance to embrace new technologies like cloud computing. Putting the technical benefits aside, cloud computing can drastically reduce the technology costs for more than 90% of the companies we see. Are you paying more than you should be?

4. Hiring in-house IT employees when it doesn't make sense. Hiring an in-house IT staff member gives you an employee whos completely devoted to your systems. It also limits you to one person's education and specialties, limits the number of hours that your technology is being looked after, and forces you to pay a regular salary plus benefits. Why not get more expertise, more round-the-clock coverage, and financial flexibility by working with an outsourced IT partner?

If you're making one of these four common IT mistakes, then you can bet it's a drag on your bottom line. Call or e-mail us today to make an appointment, and well show you how to make a better move for the future of your company.
