Four Seo Myths Debunked
There have been numerous conversations online about the real value of SEO and whether
or not it is worth investing time and money in an SEO campaign. As an online marketing agency specialising in SEO we are often faced with difficult SEO-related questions, hence this blog post. :) Below are four of the most common (non-technical) SEO myths that we hear most often.
1. SEO is only needed as a once-off or short-term campaign
Due to SEOs organic nature it can take up to six months for a campaign to show tangible results. Constant tweaking to a websites content and structure ensure the best possible experience for visitors and should form part of an ongoing SEO campaign.
SEO shouldnt be an afterthought it should be a major consideration when a sites information architecture and content strategy is being planned. When a site is live its important to look at the analytics data one gathers and to use this information to define the strategic way forward with an SEO campaign to achieve your goals. SEO shouldnt just be about getting volumes of traffic to your site, but getting the right kind of traffic to your site to maximise your ROI.
2. Using as many keywords as possible on a page will result in better rankings
Unfortunately not. Search engine algorithms are extremely complex and advanced, in many cases making the opposite is true. Loading a page with keywords is known as keyword stuffing and if search engines perceive you as a spammer, your site wont rank. Write content for your human visitors first and foremost, and dont show the search engines anything other than what a human visitor to your site would see.
3. First place rankings can be guaranteed
This is a promise often made by unscrupulous search marketing agencies to their clients. How easily a website achieves (and retains) top positions on the SERPs depends on many factors, including the competitiveness of the sites vertical and the keywords for which the website is trying to rank. No agency can guarantee a number one position. This is primarily because search engine indexes are dynamic and nobody knows exactly what the search engines algorithms are.
4. SEO is easy and anyone can do it even your marketing intern
SEO comprises many activities that work together to achieve improved rankings for your website on the SERPs for specific keywords. Only focussing on link building or optimising the on-site content will not necessarily result in sustainable better rankings.
Taking all of the above in consideration we believe that in the end your websites conversion rate is what is most important. Thousands of visitors to a website look great on paper, but if visitors dont convert then whats the point? What are some of the SEO myths youve heard? Or do you have any SEO questions?
