, the iPhone took the world by storm when it was launched in January 2007 and continues to astound millions with its capabilities almost three years later with the fourth generation.
As a phone that can seemingly do just about everything you'd ever want a mobile phone to do, the prices of iPhones can be somewhat expensive, regardless of whether you're looking for a monthly contract or a Pay-As-You-Go deal.
Fortunately, there are several ways to get cheap iPhone deals and the following four steps should ensure that you get the cheapest deal possible.
1. Go for an older model - as with most electronic products, where the newer versions are the most expensive, the same applies to iPhones.
Released on 7 June 2010, the iPhone 4 is the latest model that Apple have on offer and is packed full of features that the previous generations didn't have.
However, with a price tag of 599 pounds for the 32 gigabyte version on a Pay-As-You-Go basis, it's also the most expensive generation.
Therefore, if you want an iPhone, opt for a 3GS or even a 3G, both of which should fulfil your iPhone needs.
2. Go for a contract - generally speaking, the cheapest way to get an iPhone is to take out a contract, no matter which way you work out the figures.
The cost amongst some providers is less than 600 pounds over the whole contract, which includes the cost of the handset itself and inclusive texts, minutes and data allowance,
If you were to buy the latest handset and take advantage of a sim-only deal, which is likely to cost around 10 pounds a month, however, you'd be looking to pay at least 620 pounds a year - most likely more, as the sim-only deals very rarely come with a substantial amount of texts, minutes or data although there are a few great sim-only iPhone tariffs that do have this included.
3. Check out the supermarkets - you'll be aware that over the last few years, more and more supermarkets around the country have started to either team up with an existing mobile phone provider or have setup their own network.
Whilst you are likely to get some great deals in dedicated phone shops, it's strongly recommended that you don't automatically assume supermarkets will not have great deals to take advantage of.
They may not stock a range of phones that's as extensive as dedicated phone shops, but because the sale of mobile phones isn't their primary business, they can very often afford to provide customers with fantastic deals, generally beating most other providers.
4. Buy second hand - should you wish to own the handset outright and not take out a contract, it's worthwhile taking a look at second hand iPhones.
Most owners look after their models extremely well and only change to take advantage of the newer generation, which very often means you can get the last generation of the iPhone in a condition that looks brand new but for a heavily discounted price if you take into consideration the possibility of buying second hand.
