Four Strategies On How You Can Have Better Presentations

Public speaking has been the fear of many people

. You may not be a seasoned speaker but you eventually need to speak at a conference at one point! You may face an audience you don't even know most of the time and your only aid is yourself and your manuscript, if you have any. Sometimes, your power point presentation can help you. But these things are useless if you don't know how to present your speech well. You might stutter and shiver on stage, and your speech is rendered incomprehensible. If you take note of these 4 tips to memory, maybe your speeches may not turn out to be oratorical masterpieces, but they can surely be eloquently spoken.

1. Don't Prepare 5 Minutes Before the Presentation

Most people do this. It may work for some because the adrenaline pumps them. If you aren't used to speaking in front of the public, do not review your script or speech 5 minutes before the presentation.

This will let you easily lose track of time because you are so focused on the details. Sit back and lay loose until it's your time to speak. You should have already prepared ahead, so that's the time you've spent in preparation. Your mind has already processed this information, so you don't need to review.

2. Don't Assume that You Will Remember Everything

No matter how much you practice, there will always be a phrase or sentence that doesn't match your manuscript. What you should focus on is your idea and not on the technical details. Remember, a good speech is filled with content. People want to know what you have to say, so always make sure you get the key points intact. No matter how differently you say it, you should always have the main ideas in mind.

3. Don't Be Verbose

Say what you have to say in the least amount of words. You should always make it a task to get to your point as soon as possible. Presentations and seminars usually last for an hour or so. It may be enough time, but it could be the only time that your audience has to listen to you. Make sure that your speech is concise and to the point. This allows even more retention. The audience will not remember what you've said for the past hour, but they'll surely remember what you mean the whole time. Always keep this in mind that the less you say, the more they understand.

4. Don't Focus on Your Power Point Presentation or Manuscript

Who would want to look at a person on stage just staring at the projection screen or the piece of paper he or she is holding? As all public speaking experts say, you need to be intimate with your audience. Keep eye contact or show emotion. You want to show them what you're saying, not just tell or dictate them the contents. Always focus on your audience and convey your speech.

Remember, conveying a speech requires dynamics and precision. Be prepared to present your speech but don't even take a glance at it just before you go on stage. Once you're onstage, don't expect to remember everything. But keep in mind the key points to focus on. While you're speaking, always remember that you have to be direct to the point and maintain audience contact. Even if you're not a seasoned speaker, if you keep these in mind, you can notice how easier it is to give speeches.
