Four Valid Reasons to Divorce Your Spouse

Deciding to divorce can be a complicated matter. Most divorces happen due to marital problems that mostly do have solutions but the couple just lacks the skills to solve them. Such problems may need you to consult professional help.

However, there are marital problems that you just can't fix on your own anymore where divorce may be the only solution. If you've ever found yourself in one of such situations, coming to the decision to divorce should be easy.

Physical/Emotional Abuse

If he/ she hits you once, chances are, it will happen again. That first punch, slap or shove means that he can hit you and he will do that again once the same tension happens. You should not stay in a marriage beyond that first act of violence. Violence is about a need to exert power over a spouse, and that need is nowhere near about loving a spouse.

Abuse can come in different forms. Your spouse may abuse you physically and even emotionally. Constant yelling, screaming and put-downs are already not acceptable forms of behavior. For you and your children's safety, you need to leave.

Financial Infidelity

Once money becomes a marital issue, its effect can be long-term. If your spouse has been spending outrageous amounts of money on shopping or gambling addiction, putting an economic strain on the family, then this is already called financial infidelity. He/she may be running upcredit card debtthat you don't know about.

The sooner you learn about your spouse spending that you don't know about, you have to ask yourself if you will allow such to continue. Being married to someone like this can mean years of recovery and they will usually repeat the behavior over and over again.

Cheating

Again, if he/she did it for the first time, he/she can and will do it again. Once your spouse cheats on you, even if you found a resolution and talked it over, there is no assurance that your spouse won't do it again. A spouse will cheat for tons of reasons but what you need to understand is that there is never a good reason.

Drug or Alcohol Addiction:

Too much of something is bad, they say. If your spouse gets addicted to drugs or alcohol or even both, this is a very serious issue and can get a little scary. For some reasons, those married to addicts stay in the marriage in the hope that the addiction can still be reversed. However, becoming an addict is also a choice and attempting to convince someone who has firmly decided to change back is almost near impossible. An addict does not change because they see their spouse or children suffer.

If you are lucky, the thought of losing his/her family may trigger a positive change in the addict. If you aren't lucky, then you better think twice about staying because an addict in the family can take the whole lot down with them.
