It increases strength and stamina and is a good base for other sport and general fitness. As well as strengthening the legs it also strengthens the inner organs, heart lungs liver etc. Generally it takes a small amount of persistent hill walking to achieve noticeable results
Your body becomes your fitness tool. Lifting your own body weight up a gradient acts like a weight training program, your body responds to the stress required to meet the demands that is being put on it. If you are carrying extra weight you gain more strength on the way to trimming down because of the additional effort required.
Hilltoptreks is now offering a hill walk to fitness program where participants commit to just four hill walks on consecutive weekends with each walk increasing in difficulty as the program progresses. By the fourth weekend the improvement in your fitness level will be very noticeable.
Each participant is considered from the point of their own fitness level and worked with accordingly so there is no need to fear being overly stressed. It may sound daunting but the fun and sociable aspect of walking will also be preserved.
The last walk will take us back over the first where additional exercises will be introduced in the interests of laying down a platform Share: that will start you on the road to even higher levels of fitness.

Walks will be held on May 9th,16th, 23rd and 30th in the Wicklow area.
