You wont need to promote your website as it is already done so and most free blogging platforms are already linked to search engines etc

There are a few cons of having a free blog as well. Your choice will be limited and you will have to select what the platform presents. You can only select basic designs which are free and you will have to live with that. It means that there will be many other blogs which will look exactly the same.

A paid blog on the other hand will give you better control of your web design. You can either pick free themes or purchase others if you prefer. You will have a professional URL and a domain name of your choice if it is available.

The first disadvantage is that all this is much more complicated and you would need to a lot of work like install WordPress yourself and do the SEO of the website yourself too. Promotion would be your headache as well as you will need to submit your blog to blog directories etc
