Free Computer Training In Ohio. Information Security Awareness Training May Enhance It Security

Recently, Connect Ohio, a Columbus based non-profit organization launched a free computer training program in the state of Ohio

. The state wide program offers free computer training at public libraries and community colleges across the state. The purpose of the program is to reduce the digital divide and enable a wide section of society to benefit from the opportunities available through the Internet. Over the last decade, massive computerization has been witnessed across the world. Banks, power plants, railways, airports, government departments all depend on computers for their regular functioning. Over the same period, Internet has evolved as an indispensable channel for communication, information transmission as well as product and service offerings. However, computer education has not reached to all sections of the society. Internet penetration is still low in many regions of the world. As such, computer training programs can help in increasing Internet penetration and allow more people across the world to benefit from new tools and technologies. Lack of trained staff hampers computer education in rural areas. Online video training programs can be used to improve computer literacy in rural and remote regions.

At the same time, cybercrime has become a major challenge for individuals, organizations and government bodies. Cybercrime puts information confidentiality and integrity at risk. Cybercriminals can hack into computer devices and networks and gain access to sensitive personal, business and classified information. Therefore, IT security has become crucial for all stakeholders. Industry associations and government institutions can initiate information security awareness training programs to enlighten people on the threats evolving in the IT domain. Such training programs may help in creating security conscious culture among employees and help in strengthening the defenses against cybercrime.

The threats prevalent in the cyberspace make it inevitable to create a pool of IT experts to meet the future challenges. As such, schools and educational institutions must incorporate computer security introduction in the curriculum to inculcate safe computing practices in students from a young age.
