There once was a time when businesses had the choice of advertising online. Right around that same time, it was almost impossible not to be found by those who searched online if you only built a relatively decent website. Well, those days are long gone! Whether you own a brick and mortar or an online business, you probably know by now that an online presence is not an alternative, it is a must. The good news is that online marketing and creating that online presence doesn't have to break the bank. In fact, it can be totally free! Here are my favorite, and most effective free online marketing tools:

Write, Write, Write

Article marketing is by far my favorite, and most effective marketing tool, free or otherwise. If you spend a bit of time doing your basic keyword research, you can create an effective tool with which to advertise your business which is 100% no cost, can be easily ranked on the first page of Google without spending a cent, and has longevity. See. If you choose the right long tail keywords, and the appropriate article submission sites, you r article can be picked up and placed in the natural (unpaid) search engine listings within a few hours of publication. Also, articles are very seldom removed from the directories (unless they are considered spam). That means that you can post an article today, and get traffic from it three, five, or even ten years from now without any additional effort in your part. The key to article marketing is to provide REAL content, and limit you links to the resource box. Make sure to read the article directory guidelines very carefully!

Free Classifieds


The truth about online classifieds is that the paid memberships do a lot better than the free submissions, but you can get some quality leads using totally free classified submission sites. The trick here is to be consistent and REALLY aggressive. Don't just place an ad here and there and expect to get results. Take massive action! Post to as many free classifieds sites as you can, at least three times a week, alternating which sites you post on, so that you only place one ad a week on each site. This way you should always have at least one ad near the top of your category, and you don't risk missing your ad's expiration date to submit it for renewal. Keep ads simple and direct. Always include a call to action. Most importantly, NEVER make unrealistic claims. The truth is always more attractive than the hype!

Social Media

There's a lot of hype and buzz around social media these days. There's a reason for that. It is truly the most viral marketing alternative available, and it is FREE! The trick to making social media work for marketing is to create a hub and to be systematic about it. What I mean is that you should NOT go into social media sites to only spam your business. That's poor form! Use social media to be, well, social. Meet people, form relationships. Then, direct them to content they can benefit from like a great article you've just posted, or a video training you created. You can have all that content in your blog, which becomes your hub! Finally, have your blog or content post lead them to your sales page! That's how your build a social media funnel! Now, social media can be dangerous, it is way too much fun. So, use tools to simplify and expedite your social media updates. Be very systematic, and have a set limit to the time you spend on each site.

Free online marketing is not only possible, but it can be very effective. The truth, however, as with anything worthwhile in life, is that it will only work if you implement it. So, get to it, NOW!
