Frequency of Rollovers in Ford Vehicles by:Ivonne Jade Agustin

More and more people are now choosing Sports Utility Vehicles and pick-up trucks

than other vehicles because of its sturdy features which may appear to be somewhat safe for occupants. But buyers should think twice before purchasing them as they are more prone to accidents compared to other vehicles.

According to the National Highway & Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), several Ford vehicles are considered as the poorest performers in the conducted tests regarding rollovers. In fact, the most unsafe vehicle from rollovers is Ford's Explorer Sport Trac as it attained the poorest performance rating from NHTSA.

SUVs are the most common type of vehicle to get involve in rollovers. This is because it has higher center of gravity than sedans and smaller vehicles. Along with trucks, pick-ups, and vans, SUVs are causing around ten thousand deaths annually due to rollover accidents.

Auto Product Liability

In August 2000, the tire maker Bridgestone/Firestone Inc (Firestone) along with Ford Motor Co. announced a recall on some 14.4 million tires that were reportedly defective as they were peeling off and is prone to separating.

The popular vehicle Ford Explorer was using these tires and some 300 people died in accidents involving Explorers and these defective Firestone tires. Ford blamed the tires as Firestone blamed the poor design of the vehicle.

Victims of accidents caused by defective products are entitled to compensatory damages that would somehow alleviate their suffering and take care of their expenses caused by the damages.

For victims who are confused on who is to blame in their accident, it is best to consult with a rollover accident attorney who can assess the case and advise you of your legal actions against the negligent party.

Rollover Accidents

According to statistics, around one-third of all fatal accidents resulted from rollovers. Most of the time, these accidents are caused by speeding and other negligence in driving.

Around 85% of all these accidents are single-vehicle crashes which minimize the possibility of negligence from other parties. To prevent fatalities, below are reminders that drivers of SUVs should take note of.

Speeding. Speeding is dangerous especially when it involves larger vehicles that are more difficult to operate. Findings show that 40% of all rollover accidents are caused by speeding.

Wear seatbelts. Seatbelts may cause uneasiness but it has been proven to save lives from crashes. Everyone should maintain and check the good condition of their seatbelts so that it can accordingly keep them safe in their seats.

Carefully assess turns and curbs. The sudden shift of direction can cause the vehicle to tilt over to one side especially if it is going too fast. Each turn and maneuver should be wisely calculated so as not to cause the rollover.

Slow down on slippery and defective roads. Since SUVs can easily turnover, we must be cautious especially in roads where accidents are likely to occur.

Check tires and brakes. Before leaving, it is important to always check brakes and tires as they can save you from collisions that will inflict harm.
