From Day To Night: How To Pick A Holiday Wardrobe
With the excitement of booking girly cheap last-minute holidays soon comes the panic of what to wear
. Holidaying in Europe in the summer months, in places such as Greece or Cyprus virtually guarantees hot weather, and temperatures soaring well into the thirties. As such, you can get away with a limited wardrobe of not a lot of clothes.
It is easiest to start with the basics: everyone will need a couple of bikinis or swimming costumes that will see you through most days in the sunshine. In addition to a swimsuit, a sarong can be very useful for girls, both for something to lie on when on the beach, and for covering up at lunchtime, at bars or restaurants. Sarongs can be extremely multifunctional especially if you pick one large enough. Choose a good sized piece and it can work as a skirt or dress, scarf or shawl, depending on how you wear it, making a brilliant investment to accompany any holiday and will be great to throw on as an extra layer when you get chilly on the plane home too.
A few plain t-shirts and a pair or two of shorts will be brilliant for chilled out day time style and for slipping on in the morning over a bikini for the walk to the beach. In addition to this, a selection of light, summery dresses to choose from will be brilliant for relaxed evenings watching the sun go down over a cocktail or two.
Maxi dresses make a great and very chic option too. A long dress in a bright colour is both eye-catching and very stylish for daytime, and with the addition of a big belt or statement necklace and bracelets, makes a brilliant outfit for after sun-down, and the perfect outfit for a seamless transition from sun-drenched day to candle-lit night. It is also worth throwing in a couple of light scarves or thin cardigans for any evening chill, or to save your shoulders from a gentle sea breeze at night-time.
Footwear is also an important part of any wardrobe. With such a wide array of different sandals and summer shoes available on the high street, it can be hard to know where to start. It is feasible to take three pairs of shoes on holiday for a week. A pair of comfortable flip flops is a staple for day time, wearing around the pool, and for walking to the beach without the threat of blisters, especially with the combination of salty and sandy toes. For the evening, a plain pair of gold sandals makes a great option, and will match with the majority of outfits, as well as showing off your tan. Additionally, a pair of heels can add a bit of glitz to any outfit. Consider a pair of simple wedges rather than towering stilettos to have you dancing well into the early hours, and pick a pretty coloured pair to perfectly match your summer style.
