From Fig Leaves To Fashion Statements A Long Journey

The word fashion conjures up images of glamorous young things

, incredibly thin walking down the aisle with supreme confidence in their strides. Fabric, warped, weft and woven into beautiful material and finally cut and made into apparel fit for human wear. This set our forefathers into thinking hard and come up with slightly better versions of what could be called clothing that consisted of barks which lasted a bit longer. However, mans quest for looking decent has been ever evolving. The hides of animals that he hunted for the meat were being discarded. He then hit upon a brilliant idea and used the very weapons he had used to kill as a tool to cut holes in the hide to slip his arms through. Thus was probably born the first moccasin coat. He needed to dry the hide thoroughly in the sun for many days to remove the unpleasant odor associated with raw hide.

With the progression of time, hemp started being used as a basic fiber to knit fabric that was very coarse. Man started wearing clothes made out of natural material derived from plants. It was much later that man found that wondrous material cotton and learnt how to spin, knit and weave fabric from this tensile material. The first known use of cotton to make fabric dates back to several thousand years when the looms were operated manually. The hand operated looms are in use even today alongside fully automatic looms in most modern textile mills capable of producing at incredible speeds combined with accuracy that is really amazing. With the availability of a wide variety of fabric, the dressmakers also started becoming sophisticated and thus was born a special breed that focused all energies in creating new appealing designs leading to a whole new world of something called Fashion.

Every segment of the society was being catered to by a particular group of Fashion Designers according to individual tastes and more importantly affordability. Few of such famous people started creating a separate niche. The likes of Calvin Klein, Chanel, Christian Dior, Fendi and Gucci to name a few had celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bundchen, Christie Brinkley showcase their creations and found outlets worldwide for their exclusive products.

Fashion shows were held regularly at important cities like Milan, Paris and Los Angeles where the top models assembled and the top creators of fashion were present with their latest offerings for the world. Some of these top models were being paid astronomical sums of money to endorse a particular brand. Thus the fashion industry as such is a multi-billion dollar industry with the models themselves ending up creating new products of their own with their own brands.

Budding fashion models have access to all the interesting events happening all over the world by virtue of being connected to the Internet. With the access at their fingertips, it is as though they are at the venue themselves, taking in all the details and filing away the details in their memories to recall when the time is right.
