From Oregon To Florida, The Appeal Of "true Blood" On Satellite Tv
A lot of adults might scoff at the popularity of the "Twilight" series
, even as their teenagers get obsessed with the werewolves versus vampires battle that has somehow managed to become a major trending topic on Twitter, as well as in the high school cafeteria. And while the world of imaginary creatures might seem like something regulated to those who are young, the truth is actually that "True Blood" is managing to ignite the same sort of enthusiasm in adults, even though they might be better at hiding their excitement about watching vampires and werewolves square off in southern biker-style bars.
As far as television phenomenons go, "True Blood" is definitely one of the biggest of recent years. While HBO has no shortage of incredible series on satellite tv, they sometimes stay closer to the world of serious and dramatic entertainment, and aren't as ready to embrace their somewhat campy influences, too. That's why so many people were tuned into "The Wire" and "The Sopranos," after all, so why fix a formula that isn't broken?
Whether it happens to be audiences down in the south or those who are living in Oregon, a state that's already seen what lengths vampire-fans will go to if they're truly into a series, "True Blood" aficionados are definitely tuning in time and time again. This season alone has boasted record numbers of viewers, especially those who might just be getting into the franchise now. For the uninitiated, there isn't much not to like. Whether it's boyfriends and husbands enjoying the female eye candy in HDTV or simply tuning in for the fight sequences, there is more than enough designed to keep male viewers locked in.
At the same time, female viewers get some of the best eye candy on television these days. Whether it's a muscular young Aussie playing a southern himbo, a tall Swede dialing up the camp for his sexy vampire sheriff part, or the classic southern gentleman vampire performance given by a Brit, there is more than enough to enjoy just in terms of appearance. With Alan Ball and his team of writers, who also delighted satellite tv audiences with their work on "Six Feet Under," there is also the structure in place necessary to actually enjoy a decently-written show. This means that there are less soap opera-esque twists and turns, and more decent content that manages to do its part to get viewers hooked quickly.
And now on top of all of the other factors influencing fans, there is the new addition of a vampires/werewolves beef. Rather than simply ripping of the "Twilight" series, the writers for "True Blood" are working directly from the source material. This means that there are a bunch of tough-looking biker guys who happen to be werewolves, as well as a couple of particularly dreamy werewolves who are inexplicably drawn to that mind-reading waitress Sookie Stackhouse. Chances are, the latest introduction of mythical creatures will only draw more viewers to "True Blood," as it's quickly becoming one of the hottest shows on television.
