Frustrated With Learning Guitar?
Have you ever been frustrated with learning guitar? Some days you sit down to play with the best intentions, but then you realize you don't know what exactly it is you should be practicing. Or your fingers just aren't doing what you want them to.
There are a number of reasons why it can be tough when you first start to play an instrument. Believe me after I bought my first guitar I was frustrated with learning guitar as well. If you don't have the basics down you might as well be running in circles. I am sure you have heard many people say play scales, they are key to learning the guitar. But what is a scale and how do I go about playing one?
Well the answer is simple but mastering the scales can be a life long endeavor. To put it in simple terms, there are seven notes in the diatonic scale. A-B-C-D-E-F-G, with sharps and flats in between all except the notes B and C, and E and F. Don't worry about that for right now though.
The distance between two notes is known as a whole step. If you look at your guitar it is the span of two frets. So if you are moving up in pitch, aka moving up one fret towards the body of the guitar, that would be called a half step. If you start on an A note and move up one fret to make it sound higher in pitch, you would be playing an A sharp, or as it would be written A#.
If you continued moving up the neck one fret at a time and hit all of the notes A through G you will have just played the chromatic scale. I know, I know technical terms. But the more you learn about scales and all of the different scales available out there the more it will really open up new doors in your ability to play the guitar.
