Frx For Dynamics Gp Supporting Remotely Via Web Sessions And Phone Conferences

FRx is becoming an antiquity in relations to Microsoft Dynamics GP former Great Plains

. It is being replaced by Microsoft Management Reporter. But at this time (we are composing this publication in August of 2012) there is large number of active customers on old version of Great Plains: 10.0, 9.0, 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, 6.0 and even 5.0. If you are reading this paper chances are high that you got issues with your reporting. Lets review what could be done to help you. For simplicity this paper is compiled in FAQ style:

Q. How difficult is to support outdated version of FRx? In our case we are on 6.5 and Great Plains on Pervasive SQL 7.5

A. It has drivers to link directly to General Ledger so it is the same for new and old releases comparing to new ones. There might be nuances as newly introduced consultants might be not familiar with installation procedures, etc.

Q. We had to reinstall Windows on one of our managers laptop. When we reinstalled FRx we are getting message that your license will expire in thirty days

A. This is normal after default installation. Go to Administration and change Sysdata directory to what it originally was. We also recommend you to make Sysdata folder backup if something goes wrong

Q. After we redeployed application on new client computer we are getting error message about incorrect folder when we are trying to print Balance Sheet

A. In report edit go to output and change folder name. It might be still associated with personal employee documents

Q. When I login I am getting message related to security and cannot continue

A. Please verify with system administrator that you Windows domain logic can create and modify files in Sysdata

Q. Instead of driving in our office could you support us remotely by phone and how does it work?

A. For us remote support is preferred method of consulting. We use Gotomeeting web session. Voice could be supported directly if you have headset or you can call conference number provided with meeting ID. We share not only monitor of your computer as well as keyboard and mouse. We have seen customers who disable connection with outside world and eliminate such threads as viruses. If this is the policy then we cannot support you remotely. But the majority of customers open to the internet and we help them with FRx and Great Plains

Q. Do you see any advantages of remote consulting which could overweigh inconvenience of talking with somebody who you cannot see personally?

A. First of all you can see your consultant if he or she enable web camera in GTM. We see the following advantages. First is lack of travel time and theoretically service could be provided immediately supposing that consultant is ready. Second advantage is call center where if your case is something not known to specific technician, chances are high that other folks have experience dealing with similar problem. Call center provides opportunity for specialization for each technician versus field consultant has to deal with all spectra of issues

Q. What is pricing model? Is it by case or hourly rate?

A. When we are talking about case and its resolution then it is typically fixed price. However you should understand that case is not the same as project. Projects could be identified by technician and then estimation should be done and hourly rates apply. For example if you have isolated issue or something that is mentioned in FAQ above then it is the case. But if we identify that the whole server of Dynamics GP and FRx should be recovered and moved to different computer then this is likely the project
