We Indians are ever-hungry for the More for less ideology. Hence, fuel efficiency is a major criterion for us, when we buy a car or upgrade to one.

The Tata Indica is not a new name. Launched back in the year 2000, the car has been selling in pretty decent numbers majorly thanks to the cabbie industry using them. Tata has been upgrading the model with small knick knacks here and there to keep the car fresh with the times and their latest offering is the Tata Indica eV2. The main USP that Tata is promoting their Indica eV2 is its high fuel efficiency of 25kmpl!

Looks and Features

The Indica has not much changed since its launch nearly a decade back. The Indica eV2 still looks like the first generation Indica with its similar looking headlamps and front grille with two chrome strips. The bonnet also remains largely unchanged. The differences in looks that the eV2 support are the 14 wheels and the new body colour and graphics. It brings about a minor breath of fresh air, if not a gust of wind. The interiors too feel similar with faux wood insert on the panel (for top end variant) and the similar seats. An after-market music system with Bluetooth connectivity is also given, again only on the top end variant.

The Tata Indicia eV2 has first in its class features like Auto Drive Assist, which do helps the car to climb slopes with ease thereby reducing the failure of clutch plates. Also, the car has Clutch To Start, which requires the driver to press the clutch to start the car reducing the occasion of the driver cranking the engine with the car running on.

Engine and Performance

The Indica eV2 would mainly find its buyers going in for its diesel variant. The 1.4L common rail diesel engine is a decent performer and it produces 70bhp (@4000rpm) and a maximum torque of 14.2kgm (@1800rpm) which is decent enough for the city and the occasional drives to the highway. Tata Indica eV2 is avaible in both petrol and diesel Variants such as Tata Indica eV2 L BS IV with 1396cc Diesel starting avg Ex-Showroom Price is Rs. 394,999* and Tata Indica eV2 GLS BS IV with 1193cc Petrol, starting Avg Ex-Showroom Price is Rs. 449,208*. There is minimal turbo lag and the engine lacks the punch of the earlier mulitjet, but it is understood because the engineers at Tata have tuned this car specifically for maximum fuel efficiency. The main USP that Tata is promoting their Indica eV2 is its high fuel efficiency of 25kmpl!. The car manages to return mixed fuel efficiency (city and highway) of around 19kmpl, which is quite less than Tatas acclaimed efficiency.

Ride and Handling

The Tata Indica eV2 isnt different from its predecessors in terms of ride and handling. There is body roll due to a soft suspension setup but it doesnt bother. The steering is light and makes the car quite maneuverable in city traffic.
