Remember to make it child-friendly and having things strewn around certainly is not. It's no fun nursing bruises, a stubbed toe or a scratched knee. The cabinets and shelves, especially those housing the toys should be at the children's height level. You don't want to be getting and returning their stuff all the time, do you?

Area rugs are a must in the playroom. Rugs make great space dividers. You can segregate a boy's section, girl's play area and reading space with the use of area rugs. Beanbags in the different sections, particularly in the reading area will help make the kids playtime on the floor more comfortable.
