Fun Facts About Turtles!

Sure, turtles can be weird and sometimes they fight

, but at the end of the day they are pretty fun to explore!

For that reason I've chosen to share a few fun facts about these creatures. So here they are:

Fact#1 Did you know that turtles have been on Planet Earth for more than 200 million years?

Fact#2 And back in the days, turtles had teeth and were not able to retreat their heads when they were frightened. Other than that they were very similar to today's turtles.

Fact#3 Some turtles have a pretty long life span. Some can live for more than hundred years. Now, that must be a pretty boring life, don't you think?

Fact#4 It seems that turtles are pretty adaptable creatures. They live on every continent except Antarctica.

Facts#5 And they would live in almost any place where it is warm enough so that they can wrap up their breeding process. Let me just tell you when turtles mate they make the funniest sounds ever!

Fact#6 Folks, you probably know that there are big and small turtles. They range in size from the 4-inch Bog Turtle to the 1500 pound Leathery Turtle.

Fact#7 The turtle's shell consists from two parts. The top part is called carapace while the bottom part is called plastron.

Facts#8 Turtles don't have ears, but they are not completely deaf. However, they can detect only certain sounds.

Fact#9 Most turtles have five toes on each limb, but there are species that only have four or even three toes on their limbs.

Fact#10 Did you know that turtles have favorite colors. Researchers have found that they get easily distracted by things that come in red, yellow or orange.

Fact#11 And last but not least. Turtles are probably one of the oldest and most primitive groups of reptiles. One can only wonder, what exactly is their secret of living that long.

And as I mentioned at the very beginning turtles can sometimes fight. Whether it's a about protecting their territory or fighting over a lady, they sure know how to put up a good fight!

This giant tortoise over here, got so mad that it decided to knock over one of his rivals straight on his back.

We wouldn't know the exact reason why they fought, but I must say that it was pretty scary and at the same time pretty exciting to watch him knock over his rival. They must have some unpaid dues!
