Fun Games To Play While Playing Pool
There are a variety of games you can play while playing Pool
. Some games include, nine ball, eight ball, killer pool, and lag shot.
Even though the rules for these games vary greatly from person to person, there are a set of "official" rules for each of these games.
Nine ball can only be played with numbered balls because the object of the game is to get the nine ball into any of the pool table pockets. If there aren't any numbers, you may use the black ball as the nine-ball.
The game is set up in a diamond formation with the number one ball in the front (towards the breaker), and the nine ball in the middle. Any of the other numbered balls can go anywhere you want to put them.
The breaking shot is usually decided by a coin toss but can be decided in other ways if you choose. The breaker must hit the one ball first.
To be a legal break the breaker must also hit at least four balls into a cushion at the time of the break.
After the break, when a player hits a ball he must always hit the lowest number on the table first. The only exception is on the second hit.
If the player decides the number two ball is too hard to hit, that player may default, and may hit any ball they want. The only catch is that if the second player decides to do that, if they hit any ball in, they cannot go again.
The opponent can also choose whether to try to hit the next numbered ball in, or to make the other player go again. As long as the lowest number is hit first, the first player may keep going until the game is over (the nine ball is potted).
If any player at any time hits the cue ball in after another numbered ball the player loses his turn, unless it was the nine ball. If it was the nine ball the nine ball is removed and then moved to the back of the table and the cue ball may be placed anywhere by the next player.
When a foul is committed, the opponent may place the cue ball anywhere on the table, and may continue to move it until it makes contact with another ball. If this happens however, the opponent does not get an extra shot as in other pool game rules.
When the nine ball has finally been potted, the game is over. If you decide to play again, set up the balls as before and the winner of the previous game gets to break.
Eight ball is also a popular game that many pool players like to play. The object of this game is to pot all of the colored balls, of your choice, and the black ball before your opponent.
The game is most often played with colored balls (yellow, red and black) the black ball being the "eight" ball. The balls are set up using a regular triangle set up. With the colored balls arranged as every other one with the black one in the middle.
There are fouls of course in this game as well. Some of these include potting the cue ball, failure to perform a fair break and failure to have a foot on the ground while performing your shot.
The first player is decided basically the same way as any other pool game, and the player must again hit at least four balls into a wall. No colors are determined until a ball is pocketed after the break.
The final play begins when the only ball left is the eight ball. You must call which pocket you are intending to hit it into, and if you hit it into another hole, or off of the table, you lose.
