The Rome is an American television series based on the genre of historical drama

. It was created by Bruno Heller, John Milius and William J. MacDonald. It was directed by Michael Apted. The executive producers of the series are Bruno Heller, John Milius, William J. Mac Donald, John Melfi and Frank Doelger. Its most of the series are shot in Lazio (Italy) and Sofia (Bulgaria). The cinematography was done by Alik Sakharov, Martin Kenzie and Marco Pontecorvo. It aired on BBC, HBO and RAI on August 28, 2005 and its last episode aired on March 25, 2007. It has produced two successful seasons with a total 22 seasons.

The entire series revolves around the lives of very powerful and historical people. It also emphasizes on the lives of families and life style of two men, Lucis Vorenus and Titus Pullo. They were the Roman soldiers who were mentioned in Caesar"s Commentarii de Bello Gallico. The fictional characters of Vorenus and Pullo always witness the historical events happening in the series. All the events are not actually they are portrayed. The main characters of the series includes Kevin Mc Kidd as Lucis Vorenus, Ray Stevenson as Titus Pullo, Ciaran Hinds as Julius Caesar, Kenneth Cranham as Pompey Magnus, Polly Walker as Atia of the Julii and James Purefoy as Mark Antony were in the leading roles. The others were in reoccurring roles. In the first season, the incidents of civil war during the rule of Julius Caesar in 49 BC are shown. Around these happenings, the first season also shows the rising years of Octavian who became the first emperor of Rome in coming years.

The second season shows the struggle for conquering the empires between Mark Antony and Octavian. Later it shows how Caesar was murdered. It ended on the note of Caesar"s death and Octavian"s victory over Mark Antony in 31 BC. The idea of miniseries Rome was conducted by William J. Mac Donald and John Milius. He went with this idea to the officials of HBO Channel. The officials made it into a full length series. It was co produced by HBO and BBC in 2002. It became the first series to be co produced by HBO and BBC. Rome got positive reviews from the audience as well as the critics. The reporter Alessandra from The New York Times remarked it as a good show. Its reviews were discussed in many popular magazines and newspapers. It includes Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Empire Magazine, USA Today, Slant Magazine, LA Weekly and many more.
