Fun-filled Jewish Heritage Tours And Discovering The Synagogues Of Safed: A Better Look At It

Israel has a very rich history and culture, making it among the most prominent getaway locations globally

. Where Christianitythe globe's largest religion, representing a 3rd of the planet's populacewas born and established is in Israel, the place also known as the "Holy Land." This is why many extensive Jewish heritage tours include journeys to various synagogues in Israel, generally in Wadi Qelt and Safed.

Safed Synagogues

Safed is found in Israel's Northern District, and with an elevation of 900 meters (2,953 ft), it's thought about as the highest city in the state. It's one of Judaism's Four Holy Cities, a title that it received in the 16th century. It's a popular holiday season destination not only because of its mild environment, but due to the Ashkenazi Ha'Ari and Yosef Caro synagogues.

Yosef Caro Synagogue. Named after the author of the "Shulchan Aruch" (the codification of Jewish laws), this synagogue was developed in the 16th century mostly as a house of learning. Even though it was ruined in the 1759 quake, it was expertly rebuilt in a more modest style, and a Hassidim congregation started praying there in 1777 to participate in the renovation of the valued synagogue. Today, it's a construction wonder, bearing aesthetic Italian marble tiles and other unique fixtures.

Ashkenazi Ha'Ari Synagogue. This synagogue was also built in the 16th century, but unlike the Yosef Caro synagogue, this was mainly constructed as a house of prayer. Rabbi Isaac Luria (known by his nickname| "Ari") had the custom of praying in this synagogue on the Eve of the Sabbath, creating the widely known Lecha dodi, which is a Shabbat melody. This synagogue was destroyed in the 1837 earthquake, but was totally reconstructed in 1857.

The Rich Heritage of the Holy Land

Great Jewish heritage tours are made more fascinating and satisfying by the rich culture of Israel. Regardless of the fairly small size of this statecompared to many other countries worldwideit has so much to provide those who wish to check out the Holy Land.
