I see an increased move towards smaller personal firms who offer a focused personalised service adapted to client needs. These firms position themselves in the high value added sector. There is clearly a market for both the large institutional players and niche bespoke service providers. In Guernsey it seems that the industry is diversifying rather than consolidating. Guernsey continues to offer high level fund administration services for open ended and closed end funds. Guernsey also offers administration to Guernsey investment companies listed on the London Stock Exchange and AIM with knowledge of reporting and corporate governance for these corporate vehicles.

7) Q could you comment on the level of specialised legal expertise resident within the Channel Islands and any specific advantages this offers to international fund promoters. A The legal profession has kept pace with the growth in the fund industry. Many firms have recruited internationally experienced lawyers with expert knowledge of the industry to the Channel Island practices. The in-depth commercial and innovative skills offer clients a first class legal advisory service. Guernsey was the first jurisdiction to introduce PCC legislation and the year of experience gained through using the legislation is second to none. The law firms work with brokers in the UK in respect of Guernsey investment companies listed on the London Stock Exchange and AIM Many firms have established pan Channel Island firms which enable a cross fertilisation of ideas and experiences and improves the legal advice being offered to clients.
