General Motors new investment will help in the creation of the National Tire Research Facility which will be located at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute. An additional $14 million for the brand new facility will come from the national tobacco settlement and Virginia Tech itself. The new facility will have a wide variety of advanced machinery such as advanced rolling resistance machinery. The research at the facility will be conducted by Virginia Tech faculty as well as GM engineers and scientists. The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute is the best location for this new facility as they already have many advanced testing facilities at their disposal. One of the most famous testing facilities is their "Smart Road" which allows them to test vehicles in nearly any kind of condition such as rain, snow, and even fog. There is currently no information available on when construction when begin on the new facility or when it is estimated to be ready.
