With every technological gain, the world becomes smaller and smaller. Communicating and transmitting information, even around the globe and back, can now be done instantaneously. With the advent of the Internet some twenty years ago, this is becoming the reality and norm for more and more people. For everyone from businessmen to families overseas, physical distances just don't seem to be of as much consequence anymore. Even a road trip across the United States can seem less daunting with your air conditioning running, your stereo playing, and the car's internal combustion engine doing all the work for you. It's different though when you are thousands of feet up in the air in a small charter plane on a scenic flight. It is in this scenario, that a person begins to fathom the vastness of the world around him.

On an airbus or other larger commercial aircraft, you may not glance out of your 6-inch by 8-inch window even once during your flight- and that's if you have the window seat. And what with the in-flight movie, your own personal laptop and other electronic equipment being there to entertain, why would you? This is not the case in small plane scenic flights. The aircraft may indeed be small, but even in a group flight, everyone can see the spreading vista all around them. Depending on where you live, chartering a scenic flight can be an affordable daytrip for as little as 40 dollars a person for some companies. And usually the pricier air tours become cheaper when you take more people along and receive a group rate. Now while there is a great deal of variability in price ranges for these remarkable tours, even the more expensive options would be a worthwhile investment. How do you put a price on the simultaneous rush and inner-stillness that comes from seeing the world in a way few ever do?

Rather than insulating you from the realities of our physical planet, flight technology has the power to lift you from the virtual reality of your computer screen and bring you face to face with the raw majesty of the world we often forget. From so high up, even a whale watching tour will make these huge creatures seem like minnows. It is from so high up on a scenic flight, that we ourselves cease to be the great leviathans of our own contriving and remember that we are but little fish after all.
