Galaxy S3 Vs Htc One X : Which One Will Stand Out?

Samsungs here with yet another addition to the Galaxy series the S3

. Running on Googles Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, its got a bag full of add-ons with it. On the other hand, HTC is launching the new One X to rival the Galaxy S3. Samsung is already an established name in the smartphone industry whereas HTC is yet to carve a niche for itself. Which ones going to be a success story this time? Lets find out through a comparative study.

Design and Dimensions: Both the S3 and One X are similar in both design and weight. The S3 measures 71x137 while the One x is 70 x 134. This minor difference is difficult to distinguish by the human eye.

The S3 flaunts more rounded curves than its predecessor, the S2. The One X on the hand is very comfortable to hold with minimal curves. The only intrusion is the rear mounted big camera lens which comes in the way of fingers while holding it in the landscape mode.

Processor, RAM and CPU: The Galaxy S3 is comes with Samsungs very own Exynos 4 Quad processor, which is a 32 nm chip based on ARM Cortex 9 quad-core architecture. It is clocked at 1.4 GHz. While the One X gets a 1.5 GHz nVidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor. Both the phones are backed by a 1 GB RAM.

Theoretically, the One X is more powerful though that may not imply that performance is superior.

Storage: The S3 is clear winner here as it offers the option to choose between 16/32/64 GB memory in addition to expand it further through micro SD card.

The One X offers a standard 32 GB storage. There is no option to expand it further as there is no SD card slot and the rear cover cannot be removed. This can make transferring of data with a memory card from another device, extremely difficult.

Display and Resolution: The Galaxy S3 has a Super AMOLED 4.8-inch display with a pixel density of 306 ppi. The One X sports a slightly smaller 4.7 inch Super IPS display, the best on an Android phone till date. It has a slightly higher pixel density of 312 ppi.

Both screens use a 720 x 1280 resolution with intense Retina quality pixel densities. But the display looks clumsy with a series of apps and widgets cluttering the screen.

Software: This is another area where the features of the two phones are similar. Both use Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with minor difference in their versions. The S3 runs on 4.0.4 while the One X runs on 4.0.3.

The user interface overlay distinguishes the two phones. Galaxy S3 uses Touchwiz and One X uses an upgraded version of its Sense 4.0 interface.

Both the phones come pre-loaded with a wide range of apps. Emulating Apples Siri, Samsung has incorporated S voice, a voice recognition software that is pretty impressive. You can unlock the phone by saying something like Hi, Galaxy and do tasks like send emails, set reminders and get weather forecasts.

Camera: HTC has come up with a couple of intriguing features like holding down the shutter button to capture images continuously. Also, it can capture still images while recording high definition videos at 1080 p. It seems HTC has identified that camera plays a key role in a smartphone.

Both the rivals come equipped with an 8 MP rear camera. The front camera for Galaxy S3 is 1.9 MP while that of HTC is 1.3 MP.

Connectivity and Battery Life: The One X boasts of a micro USB, Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) and near-field communications for connectivity. Same goes for the S3. The rumor that remains unconfirmed is wireless charging.

As for the battery, Samsung has loaded the S3 with a mammoth 2100 mAh battery which would soon be in the labs for testing. The One X comes with a less powerful 1800 mAh battery which gets quickly drained out due to its high resolution display. As mentioned earlier, the rear cover is non-removable, which restricts users to readily replace the battery.

The Galaxy series from Samsung has made it become the worlds largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the first quarter of 2012. We expect the S3 to add another feather to its cap. On the other hand, people will love the One X as it is competent enough to allure smartphone lovers. It is stylish, user-friendly and comes with new features. You might just have to be a frugal at times in your usage to ensure that it doesnt run out of power.
