With the changes in the room temperature the level of water in the vertical tube of the thermometer runs up and down.

As most people use the Galileo thermometers as decorative pieces for home dcor they are very expensive. There are some cheaper ones available in the market but buyers are advised not to go for them as they may be fake products.
