Garden Stores Which Type Is Best For You?

Garden stores, sometimes referred to as storage units or storage boxes

, are becoming increasingly popular in the UK.

There are two main reasons for this, firstly, most people simply need more storage space and secondly, with gardens becoming generally smaller, a garden store is a more compact alternative to a garden shed.

USE

The first item to consider is what you wish to store and then make your decision based on the size and level of security required.

It however makes good sense to purchase the largest store that will fit in your chosen location as, over time, you will always be able to fill it. The difference in price between varying model sizes in the same range is usually small (the same amount of work goes into the manufacture so the only difference is in the additional materials required).

Regarding security, there is little point in purchasing an expensive metal store if you only have some cheap plastic garden furniture to stash, but if you have a decent lawnmower or bicycle then consider a good quality metal version which have considerably better security features than a plastic or wooden box.

MATERIAL

Generally, storage units are either wooden, plastic or metal.

Although the wooden and plastic versions are considerably cheaper than metal they have some major disadvantages.

Wooden stores will need yearly maintenance and together with the plastic alternatives offer a poor level of security - also both are combustible so think carefully where they are to be placed.

Although plastic garden stores are now freely available they will deteriorate, discolour and become brittle over time.

If your finances will allow, a good quality metal store is the way to go (again not the cheapies from DIY stores which will blow away in the wind and rust in six months). Be prepared to pay about 400 for one large enough to place an adult bike into.

Remember that metal is more secure, maintenance free and the larger companies offer anything up to a 25 year guarantee.

WHERE TO BUY

Generally steer clear of the cheap offerings of large DIY chains or catalogue companies and search the internet to purchase direct from the manufacturer if possible you will get a better deal and will be told which product is best for you (by the experts).
