Garden fencing 'should be repaired before winter'

Garden fencing 'should be repaired before winter'

Many consumers and businesses have outdoor spaces and most want the areas to look their best.

With this in mind, green-fingered TV personality Alan Titchmarsh has issued some tips so that people can make the most of what they have.

Writing in the Daily Mail, the expert pointed out that before the harshest time of winter, individuals should replace and repair garden fencing and other items.

Indeed, whether it is wire fencing or other versions of the products, it can be seriously damaged if proper attention is not paid to readying it for the depths of the cold season.

Titchmarsh said: "We'd like to believe that last year's old-fashioned winter, the coldest in 30 years, was just a quirk of fate, and that this year things will be better.

"But when treasured plants are at risk, and garden hardware is in jeopardy if wind and wet have their way, then it pays to prepare for the worst."

He added: "A little attention now can save more expensive replacements later".

The plant enthusiast, who presented BBC series Groundforce alongside colleagues Charlie Dimmock and Tommy Walsh, added that people need to bear in mind that is not only the cost of things like garden fencing that will hit them.

It is also the cost of "windows and bits of car bodywork that stand to be trashed when whatever breaks loose bounces around in the wind".

When people make sure their wire fencing and other outdoor items are secured for the harsh weather, they will sleep better, he claimed.

Last winter was particularly harsh and experts have predicted that this one could follow suit.

Businesses and consumers who fail to take heed of warnings to make sure their outdoor spaces and garden fencing are prepared for wind, ice and rain may come to regret it later on.
