Gardening Information- A Water Feature For Your Garden
Improving Your Garden by Adding a Fountain
Adding a water feature to your garden can add immeasurably to your enjoyment of the garden. The soothing sound of a fountain compliments the aesthetic soul quieting quality of the garden. Listening to the sounds of water flowing in a fountain, pond or fall can add quality of life. A water feature can attract colorful birds and allow for a fish habitat.
These days there are a plethora of pre-manufactured water features that are reasonably priced and relatively easy to install. A little prep work and you can have a simple pond installed in an afternoon. More time and money and you can have a fountain, pond and waterfall all in one. Advances in technology make the pond easy to operate and maintenance is much easier than twenty or even ten years ago.
The natural ambiance provided by the water feature nestled in a green garden is a gorgeous scene, moving water throughs off negative ions which have an invigorating effect on people. (Ever feel like singing in the shower? How do you feel at a waterfall or the ocean?) It makes a great backdrop for practicing meditation, Tai Chi or yoga. The soothing sound of water aids concentration and serenity. Without practicing any of the above however, anyone who enters the peaceful area of a garden with a fountain, pond or fall, will automatically reap the calming benefits. Having a water feature in the garden will also attract beneficial insects like dragonflies, put in a few fish and you keep the mosquito larvae from growing.
When choosing a garden feature consider the space you have first, what kind of feature will be suited best for your space. How much prep work will be needed?
Will you need professional help and if so what might be the cost. Usually the superstore or nursery where you buy you materials will be able to give you some good information and point you in the direction of books and pictures for ideas, or you can get information and order you pond materials online with a little research. You can get a fountain or other water feature that will go perfectly for any space with research and patience. (of course gardeners have lots of patience, right?)
You may need to bury a power line to the feature from the house power panel, if you don't know what your doing then get a helping hand, no electrical shock therapy in the garden, not cool. You may even be able to get a power cord designed to be buried then you won't need an electrician, nor will you need to hard wire the line. You simply bury the line and plug it into an available out let at the house or outbuilding and presto you have unseen power to the fountain, pond or fall water pump.
I just can't think of any drawbacks with a water feature though the raccoons did clean out my fish occasionally I only put in feeder gold fish which are cheap and I enjoy the racoons. For a nice addition to any garden consider a water feature.
May life yield an abundant harvest of joy to you today.
