Gemstone Beads : Unknown Facts About Apatite Beads
Apatite beads may not have any connections with food in their nature but are definitely a feast for the eyes
. The name of these beads comes from Greek mythology. Apate is the name of the Greek goddess of deceit and it usually associates with trickery, fraud, crimes and all such vices. It is believed that this was found inside the Pandoras Box.
There are many speculations about the origin of the name or
apatite beads. Some scholars believe that there is no connection between these beads and eating as it is referred to as a group of minerals such as fluorapatite, hydroxylapatite, chlorapatite, etc. However, other authors hold the view that the apatite crystals form a major component of teeth that helps create a junction between the enamel and the dentin. Thus, as a result of this finding they try to strike a connection between apatite and appetite. But, in actual practice none of the above mentioned assumptions hold any truth.
A noticeable existence of apatite gemstone has come into being only about 10 years ago somewhere in the 1990s. At that time the most popular gems were blue and green colored Paraiba tourmalines, which were selling like hot cakes at high prices. But, when the traces of green colored gems were found under the earth in Madagascar, the reign of Paraiba was taken over by these beautiful precious gems called apatite. These stones are generally available in various shades of green ranging from light green to bluish green. Besides green these beautiful stones can also be found in colors like yellow, purple, pink, blue, and redish-brown. All the forms of these stones look mesmerizing and astonishing.
Apatite, just like quartz or topaz, can be easily found in almost every part of the globe in it mineral form and in big sizes. However, it originates in the form of a gem only in Madagascar, United States, Brazil and Mexico.
These crystals possess both transparent and translucent features. In earlier times when apatite was not recognized as a precious gemstone it was used as phosphate for the fertilizers. Paraiba tourmalines which used to cost many thousand dollars per carat has been aptly substituted with these similar looking gems which are not only as attractive as Paraiba but also very inexpensive. If compared, these gems would only cost the buyer 1 percent of what Pariaba would have. Thus, these gems offer a great deal for the buyers along with elegance and grace.
