This will reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of catching genital warts from your partner. Other kinds of birth control are not effective against genital warts. For instance, the birth control pill, the diaphragm, and the IUD are do not protect against genital warts because they are only aimed at preventing pregnancy and provide no protection against sexually transmitted diseases.

Another risk factor for genital warts is the transference of blood through needles and needle exchange. Needles should always be clean and new and never shared to reduce your risk of catching genital warts. If you are sexually active, especially if you have multiple partners, be sure to get regularly tested for sexually transmitted diseases of all kinds. Remember that genital warts can affect anyone, of any class, race, or social or ethnic background. There is no cultural prevalence of genital warts amongst different groups. So you must be careful to avoid contracting the virus. Prevention and care can help reduce your risk of contracting genital warts in your lifetime.
