The northernmost point is near Beskydok, a mountain on the border with Poland near the village of Oravsk Polhora in the Beskydes. The southernmost point is near the village of Patince on the Danube on the border with Hungary. The westernmost point is on the Morava River near Zhorsk Ves on the Austrian border. The easternmost point is close to the summit of Kremenec, a mountain near the village of Nov Sedlica at the meeting point of Slovak, Polish, and Ukrainian borders.

The landscape of Slovakia is characterised by great difference in height. The lowest lying place is the town of Streda nad Bodrogom (95 m above sea level) in eastern Slovakia, the highestpoint being the Gerlach Peak (2655 m above sea level) in the High Tatra mountains. Its landscape is defined by two main gegraphic regions the Carpathian Mountains and the Panonian Basin. In northern and central Slovakia the countryside is hilly, covered with the Carpathian mountain range. High Tatras is very famous Slovak mountain and is very popular recreation area. The Panonian Basin is formed by the Danubian and the East Slovakia Lowlands. These represent very important agricultural areas.

The Danube River creates awaterway which connects Slovakia with the Black Sea ports and, through the Rhein Main Danube canal, also with the ports of western Europe. Besides the Danube River, the other important rivers are Hornd, Hron, Morava and Vh, Slovakias longest river. Most of them serve as sources of hydroelectric power. Lakes and reservoires, like Liptovsk Mara, Sava, Zemplnska rava or Vek Domaa, offer excellent possibilities for watersports.

Slovakia is known also by protected areas. Many attractive, ecologically valuable regions are placed under various levels of protection. There are 9 National Parks and 14 Protected landscape areas. In Slovakia are also as much as 44 caves designated the national nature monuments, which represent a part of the most significant natural heritage of the country. The oldest ice cave in Europe is Dobinsk adov jaskya located on the south-western edge of the Slovak Paradise National Park.

The climate in Slovak Republic is mild with warm, relatively dry summers and cold, humid winters. The annual average temperature varies from 6C (43F) in northern Slovakia to 11C (52F) in the south. The warmest areas being in the South Slovakian and East Slovakian Lowlands.
