George Soros Picks a Fight with Fox News

George Soros Picks a Fight with Fox News

George Soros, the 80th richest man in the world (according to Forbes) is in news again, and this time for openly waging a war against one of the largest media organizations of the world: Fox News; owned by media baron Rupert Murdoch. Though Soros is not directly at loggerheads with Murdoch, he definitely has some issues with Fox News. Fox News's success, because they are not politically correct, infuriates the left. The bone of the contention is hosts of Fox News channel are supposedly reporting false information, which in turn may incite violence and cause large scale damage.

The press is considered to be the fourth pillar of democracy, and if such a responsible entity falters, who will hold them accountable? Media Matters, a non-profit organization has been working in this space for few years and has been trying to hold Fox News accountable for broadcasting false and misleading information. But many say Media Matters are perpetual liars and Soros supports anti-American slogans, rhetoric, stories, and people.

A Snowballing Issue?

What started as an earnest effort is snowballing into a sponsored campaign. Soros donated one million to Media Matters so that the non-for-profit organization can approach advertisers of Fox News and ask them to stop providing the broadcast company with ad revenue. This would be catastrophic for cash strapped media organizations, but not Fox News which is doing quite well, who are yet to recover from ripples of the recent financial crisis. Soros, by donating $1 million to Media Matters, definitely intensified matters and wants businesses to divorce themselves from Fox; a comical attempt.

Not the First Time

This is not the first time that George Soros is in the news. Just a fortnight ago, Soros was in news for paying a settlement of $24 million to Susan Weber - wife of his son Gregory Soros - to keep the 16-room apartment on Fifth Avenue.
