Get Ahead Of The Competition
There are many great skills that can be learned as a person is involved with some type of athletic program or sport
. Team sports teach us how to work with others to achieve a shared goal and support each other in accomplishments. Great friendships are often made as teammates learn to rely and trust each other for help and support. Solo sports are a great way for us to set goals for ourselves and see our growth as we work to achieve each goal. In an individual sport, we only have ourselves to rely on and we often push ourselves hard to achieve our goals. Whether a person is involved with a team sport or an individual sport, there will be a fair amount of competition that a person will have to face.
I grew up playing different sports and one part of the competition aspect that I hated was try outs. I really got scared and worried if I was good enough to beat out the others who were also trying out. It was hard not to doubt myself as I saw how good the others truly were. However, I was able to continue and do my best just like I had practiced. As I got older, the competition from other athletes got a lot harder and it was more and more difficult to stand out in the crowd. Just think about how many students there are in high schools playing sports.
Then, compare that number to the number of students who make a college sports team. There are so many high schools in our country and it seems each one has a star player. Next, you can compare the amount of college sports players who go on to have a professional career in their sport. To make it to the top, you have to be one of the best. Part of that is getting into a great college with a lot of exposure. There are even some college recruiting services that can help students be seen by more colleges in hopes of having a great recruit. By getting accepted by a great college, an athlete's ability to achieve success will increase dramatically.
Realize your strengths and know your weaknesses so that you can work to improve them. Set goals for yourself and work hard at always trying to achieve those goals. Remember the lessons you have learned and always remember to have fun because of you aren't loving it, you shouldn't be doing it.
