Get Ahead With Mobile Marketing
The enthusiasm with which technology has been embraced over recent years has not
just transformed the way in which we communicate and do business, but also in the way we advertise goods and services. The sudden surge in online commerce has opened up a whole host of opportunities for businesses, allowing smaller companies to nip in and steal a march on their slower-moving, larger bricks-and-mortar rivals. However, more recently weve seen the rise of the smartphone, which has soared to prominence and established itself as a firm favourite among consumers. This has, in turn, opened up a range of possibilities to advertisers looking to peddle their wares to potential customers.
While the term mobile marketing was originally used to refer to moving billboards or road shows, it has since become synonymous with the mobile phone. Prior to the relatively recent advent of the smartphone which was brought to mainstream popularity through such devices as the Apple iPhone SMS advertising provided firms with the chance to reach consumers directly via text message. However, unsolicited messages often run the risk of antagonising some potential customers and the range of mobile marketing options has broadened considerably since the smartphone was introduced.
One of the primary advantages of the smartphone is easier and quicker connectivity to the world wide web. While WAP technology provided some form of internet access in previous years, newer handsets enable users to access a range of goods and services online. Indeed, many retailers have been quick to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them by launching optimised mobile websites enabling customers to perform a range of functions simply through using their phone. The popularity of the mobile internet continues to soar, with the number of users growing all the time as more and more smartphones find their way into the hands of consumers across the world.
Earlier this year, the International Data Corporations Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker tipped the global smartphone market to grow by 49.2 per cent over the course of 2011, as a growing number of people trade in their older handsets for more up-to-date models. This rapid expansion means it is imperative that businesses establish a mobile marketing presence before their rivals do, as leaving it too late to make an entry could mean some firms are left squeezed out of the market by their more agile competitors. The precision of mobile marketing can ensure you get more bang for your buck, allowing you to target campaigns more accurately at people who are more likely to respond positively to them.
