Get Into the Zone with Binaural Meditation
Get Into the Zone with Binaural Meditation
Binaural meditation is a form of spiritual practice in which you listen to sounds--musical tones--through headphones in order to induce a state of meditation. The practice of meditation, in the even that you're not familiar with it, is a practice in which you attempt to reach state of mind in which you feel like you've transcended yourself. That is, you go beyond your own personal emotions or concerns of the immediate moment and "fall into a zone". In fact, many athletes and martial artists who achieve superior performances talk about "the Zone" that they go into mentally. This is a type of meditation. Great artists also enter into a state of mind that is akin to deep meditation when they produce their novels, musical compositions, paintings, and so on.
Binaural meditation is induced by two very slightly different tones being played at the same time. One tone is played in one ear and the other tone is, of course, played in the other ear. This is why it is necessary to listen to binaural beats, as they're called, through headphones. Some people say that if you have an advanced surround-sound system you can sit between the speakers and achieve the desired effect, but in truth the use of headphones is the recommended way of listening.
The two slightly different tones induce the state of binaural meditation because the brain naturally attempts to reconcile them into a single tone. To do this the brain must mix them together in spite of the fact that physically they are two different tones. The brain's mixing activity generates particular brainwaves, and these in turn send the practitioner into a state of meditation--a mental state of timeless lucidity and extreme clarity, beyond personal emotion and personal discernment.
Binaural meditation can be used by anyone, and this is why it has caught fire in recent years. Normally, reaching the deeper states of meditation is possible only after many years of practice and discipline. The only exception would be the great artist, but how many people are great artistic talents or have the drive to practice their art at an intense level nearly every day? So, in truth, even the artist and the athlete are constantly practicing. Yet by using binaural beats, the "common man" can enjoy the benefits of meditation.
The benefits of binaural meditation are many. They include stress reduction, the speeding up of physical healing, enhanced creativity, improvement of memory, and even anti-aging energies being stimulated. These are among the leading benefits of all meditation practices, in fact; so, benefiting from meditation through listening to binaural beats without needing to be some "Zen master" is now a highly sought-after experience and practice.
To engage in binaural meditation, you need: a sound system with headphones; a binaural beats recording; and a quiet, comfortable place where you can sit or lie down in solitude for 20 to 40 minutes without any disturbance. It's recommended by those with experience that you engage in binaural meditation twice daily, preferably in the early morning and then again in the evening or just before bed.
