Pushups are a fantastic upper body exercise
Pushups are a fantastic upper body exercise. The only problem with them is that there is only so far they can take you before you hit a wall. This is because they are a bodyweight exercise; meaning once you are comfortable with lifting your own bodyweight in that fashion you are not going to see anymore muscle building benefits by continuously performing them.
This is why pushup variations where invented. These variations change the dynamics of the exercise so that you feel more resistance or so that you are working different muscles with your pushup.
A great example of this is the Box Pushup and that is why I am about to explain to you how you can do a box pushup and hopefully you will see how performing a box pushup will give you more of a challenge than a standard pushup.
First up you need two sturdy boxes. They need to be sturdy because you will be putting your whole weight on them and you do not want them to give in.
Secondly you should place these boxes a couple of feet apart so that you have enough room to do a push up in between them.
Now what you will do is do a push up in between the two boxes and then when you are on the bottom explode outwards so your arms come off the ground and land on the boxes.
Then you should do another pushup on the boxes, when you are on the bottom push off again and land back on the floor.
This basically means that you will be doing 2 pushups for every 1 rep.
