Get More From Your Ethernet Cables

Ethernet cables are used to connect two or more computers and create a home or office

network and can also hook up to scanners and printers as well as create a connection to the internet.

They transfer data at incredibly high speeds and without loss of signal quality or information, making them ideal for high-demand situations where lots of bandwidth is being used.

Ethernet cables come in different types and lengths, so it is important to get the right one for your needs. Consider the category, as this determines the speed at which information is sent along the wire, and how long you need the cable to be without leaving excess lead hanging around.

There are two types of Ethernet cable to choose from - solid core and stranded - with solid being cheaper and less flexible, meaning they are stronger over long distances.

Using Ethernet splitters

If there are multiple computers and laptops in a home or office they can all share the same internet connection with the use of Ethernet cables and splitters.

Ethernet splitters allow the connection to be used by different devices simultaneously, meaning there is no need for extra web services and hardware because a shared network is created. The same method can allow different computers to use one printer or scanner and so on.

Two Ethernet splitters are needed - one at each end of the devices being connected, whether they are computers, routers, games consoles, or other equipment such as printers and scanners.

The splitters ensure the signals can be transmitted across the one Ethernet cable and reconfigured at the other end. Because the cables contain several wires but only some are in use, it is possible to use Ethernet cables for additional purposes.

.

Linking two Ethernet cables

It is possible to link two Ethernet cables together if one is not long enough to reach between both pieces of equipment.

To do this, an Ethernet cable coupler is needed. When buying this kit, ensure the connectors are of the correct size and shape and are compatible with the category of cable you have.

Then simply click the end of the first lead into one side of the coupler, the other lead into the opposite side and then complete the connection by attaching that to the other device.
