Get Noticed For The Next Round Of Promotions

Have you ever been passed over for a promotion that you thought was bound to be yours

There is more to getting a promotion than just working hard and doing your job well. You also need to leave a positive impression on those who have the power to give you a promotion. Advancing within your company is partly hard work, but mostly putting yourself in a position to be noticed by the decision makers within your company.

Here are some steps you can take to make sure that you are noticed for your hard work and ability:

*Be confident and vocal. When you are given the opportunity to meet with company executives at meetings and events, go prepared to be noticed. Study the meeting agenda and go armed with relevant questions that show you are thinking about ways the company can succeed. Be sure to participate in discussions, seeking opportunities to add value and expertise.

*Show initiative and take leadership positions on new projects. Watch for chances to step up and undertake a new project or initiative at your company, even if you feel the project may be hard or risky. You can stand out from your peers by being willing to step up and lead. You may be noticed for your leadership for the first time by your bosses.

*Network. Don't just go to work, keep your nose to the grindstone, and go home promptly at 5 pm. Take the initiative to get to know your coworkers and superiors. Go out of your way to attend company events such as company parties, happy hour, and picnics. These events give you the unique opportunity to chat with the leaders of your company that you may not get to interact with on a daily basis. Be prepared to have a real conversation with them and ask them questions about what they do and their vision for the company. The goal is to establish camaraderie.

Good old fashioned hard work is always an important element of succeeding in the workplace, but you must position yourself so that your hard work and aptitude is noticed by those who make the decisions.
