Common to most people is the desire to be liked

. There are those who say they do not care what others think of them, but for most of us we like to have others like us.

So what would we like others to do for us? The deepest cravings within us all are, the desire to be important and the desire to be appreciated.

To give meaning to our lives we need to feel an important part of society and also that we are appreciated by society. Trouble starts when a person does not feel important or appreciated by others. This person in turn ceases to see others as important and life itself becomes unimportant to them. They end up on the fringes of society, no longer feeling part of it.

How many of those people would have led a productive and less destructive life had someone made them feel an important part of society?

People should be as Charles Schwab put it, "hearty in their aprobation and lavish in their praise".

Make sure that your praise and admiration is genuine and not empty flattery. There is always something praiseworthy and admirable about others. Take the trouble to see it.

When planning an Internet marketing promotion we should always ensure that our target audience feels important to us and appreciated, and not someone we are trying to sell something to.

Remember to get in the habit of saying thank you, giving compliments and making others feel important. It costs the giver nothing but is a priceless gift to the receivor.
