Face warts are usually raised bumps that are small and rough

. They occur frequently and are of no harm. Aesthetic reasons are the main concern. No one wants these unsightly warts on their face.

Usually, face warts will appear in a cluster. The clusters are usually not too large, but they can build up to 100 warts in some cases. They commonly come in two different forms; flat warts or common warts.

Children have face warts with greater frequency than adults. This is partially caused by their immature immune systems. Viruses and bacteria are protected from invading the body by the body's immune system and facial warts are due to a virus that is known as the human papilloma virus (or HPV). The human papilloma virus is contagious and penetrates the skin from the injuries such as abrasions or scratches.

There are home remedies, over the counter treatments, and surgical procedures designed to alleviate face warts.

Surgical procedures such as cryosurgery, laser therapy or electrosurgery must be performed by a licensed doctor. They hurt, and the healing process takes a while. One wart can require several visits for treatment.

Additionally, you may end up with a scar and that's definitely not a good thing. Remember that you are treating the face and any scarring might be as unattractive as the removed wart was in the first place.

Because of these and other problems, it is questionable as to whether it is alright to use such wart removal methods to treat children.

Other types of treatments involve over-the-counter remedies like creams, and gels. There are a lot of time tested home remedies such as vinegar, garlic, and even duct tape.

Never forget that it is your face that is affected. Some home wart removal methods, as well as OTC methods, may leave a scar due to high acid content. Although they may be fine for treating other kinds of warts such as foot warts, they may not be recommended for treating facial warts. If you have a scar on the bottom of your foot people won't notice.

But facial scarring is far more upsetting. Get up to speed on any method you choose to use including any adverse side effects. If you have any misgivings, get a second opinion. Don't take any chances.

Keep in mind that while you can get rid of facial warts by using several methods, a lot of facial warts will go away on their own, although this may take several months or even a few years.
